Dear Parents
 
We welcome the rain today.  May you all have a warm, snug week-end gearing up for the last week of term.  Stay safe on the roads if you are travelling.  Please take note of the following.


CIVVIES DAY: 15 March 2019
Please note that Friday, 15 March 2019 is a Civvies Day. Learners need to pay R5 to attend school in civvies. Funds raised will go towards Canaan Care Centre. Learners must please dress according to school policy - neat, no make-up, girls tops to cover the shoulders (no spaghetti straps) and the tummy; no extra short, shorts or mini dresses, no slops and no board shorts. Thank you.

REPORTS: 
Grades 1 – 7: These reports will be sent home with your child/ren on Friday, 15 March 2019.
Grades 8 – 12: Parents are to collect these reports between 10:30 and 11:00 on Friday, 15 March 2019, in the Art Room.
Please note that should you be unable to collect your child’s report, an adult is to be sent with a letter of permission from yourself to collect the report. Thank you for your support in this matter.

EXTRA MURALS: Last week of term
Please note that extra murals for the first term will end on Friday, 8 March. Only those teams going on tour will have practices next week. The respective coaches will advise their teams.

Grade 4 - 7: Early Closure
Please be advised that Grades 4 to 7 will end school at 13:20 on Wednesday, 13 March, due to the Study Skills Workshop that will take place in the School Hall from 13:30. Thank you.

INTER-SCHOOLS ATHLETICS: 
Hosted by Lilyfontein School
Well done to all the Athletes that took part in the Inter-Schools Athletics Meeting. Lilyfontein won the day with a total of 313 points, followed by Komga with 228 points and Stutterheim with 211 points.
 

REQUEST: Un-allocated payments
The Finance Department has un-allocated payments due to incorrect or incomplete references. Please could all parents check their school fees statements to verify that all payments made are reflected on the statements. If payments are missing please forward proof of payment to the finance office as soon as possible. Thank you.

INTERHOUSE PLAYS:  Grade 4-12 learners
Learners in Orange and Navy House will perform their Interhouse plays on Thursday, 14 March at 17:30 in the School Hall. Learners who wish to attend this must wear their informal school uniform. Parents are welcome to attend. Kindly RSVP by letting the front office know whether you and/or your child will attend to enable the house captains to plan for seating. A tuckshop will be available. The cost of the event is R5 for learners and R10 for adults.


ECO CHALLENGE: Single Use Plastics
Lilyfontein ECO Club challenges the Lilyfontein Family to participate in the 100% SINGLE USE PLASTIC FREE CHALLENGE! How it works:
1. Starts on Monday 11 March
2. You may not use or buy any product that has a single use plastic packaging
3. Finishes on Friday 15 March
4. Learners pledge and sign a register every day!
Do you have what it takes to SAY NO to single use plastics? Together we can do anything!

SPORT NEWS: Bass Angling 
Congratulations to Nathan Lentz who has qualified in the Eastern Division fish-offs held between Southern Cape, Eastern Province and Border to represent the Eastern Division Junior Bass Angling Team for a 4th consecutive season. Nathan was part of the team which made history by taking top honours at the 2017 championship and then amazingly repeating this feat on the Vaal River Championship in 2018. This was truly a remarkable achievement in Eastern Division Bass Angling history. The team will compete in the South African Junior National Championships to be held on Witbank Dam in Mpumalanga from 28 to 31 March 2019.The team will travel home on 1 April. All the best for the tournament.

Kara Freitag competed in the Horse of the Year 2019 show held in Kyalami in March. This phenomenal young rider earned the following top accolades:

Aiden Young (Grade 11) ran the Buffs Half Marathon, 21km on 10 March 2019 and was placed 2nd junior in a time of 1.31.32.

MAJORETTES
Congratulations to the Lilyfontein Majorettes took part in the Finals of the PNA Ultimate Performer Competition. The athletes took to the stage in true majorette form. The Lilyfontein Majorettes walked away with the following titles:
- Over all Junior Ultimate Performer
- Petit & Junior Ultimate Performer
- Ultimate Petit & Junior Large Group
- Overall Petit & Junior Group - Ultimate Junior Dancer
This came with R10 000 cash prize as well as other prizes. We are super proud of our team on their excellent performance. Well done to the long hours of training and the dedication.

Eastern Cape Athletics Championships
A massive congratulations to Megan Emslie in grade 8, on winning a silver medal for finishing second in the girls’ U14 100m, in a personal best time of 12:91, at the Eastern Cape Athletics Championships which was held in Nelson Mandela Bay over the weekend. We are extremely proud of her!
