Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting. The Lilyfontein Interact Club is sponsored by Gonubie Rotary Club
Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects the aim of which is to learn the importance of:
- Developing leadership skills and personal integrity
- Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others
- Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work
- Advancing international understanding and goodwill
Lilyfontein's Interact Club was chartered in 2004. It's motto is JUST SERVE.
The board meets on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month and general meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month.
Lilyfontein Interact Club has one major project - to support the Canaan Care Centre for mentally and Physically handicapped children but also supports other charities including CHOC, McClelland Adult Centre and Helping Those in Need.
They also run a blood drive each term to collect blood for the National Blood Service.
All INteract members have an opportunity to join the international Rotary Short Term Exchange Programme which gives them an opprtunity to spend 6 weeks with a host family in Europe.
Interact Short Term International Exchange
Mattheus van der Walt, Christianne Whitward, Charice Carlson, Tara Rutherford and Nathan Crew went to Germany as part of the Rotary Short Term Exchange Programme. This programme enables learners from grade 10 – 11 to spend six weeks overseas with a host family and experience life with this family. They go overseas after writing exams and spend a white Christmas. The Lilyfontein learners host the foreign learner for six weeks before they go overseas and show the foreigner all there is to see in our Province. Both sets of learners go on an organised tour as part of what they do. This programme provides an incredible opportunity for all learners.
